M16 Rifle Parts


Client:
Military Hardware Manufacturer

Manufacturing Challenge:
A manufacturer producing high volume parts for the M-16 rifle approached Everite with a manufacturing challenge. They were using a broaching operation to cut a slot in a 2.5mm diameter pin made from hardened S7 tool steel . The slot depth was 1.25mm deep x 5mm wide. The broach created unacceptable burrs and frequent re-sharpening. 

EG618S

Solution:
Everite provided an EG618S electrochemical grinder with a high temperature bond diamond wheel. The parts are completely burr free and ground to size in one pass. The combination of ECG and the special bond wheel has produced over 1,000,000 parts on the initial grinding wheel with no wheel dressing required.
