Honeycomb Seal Rings

Client: Major Aircraft Engine Repair Facility

Manufacturing Challenge:
A major aircraft engine repair facility needed to grind large diameter honeycomb seal rings. The honeycomb is made from HastelloyX material. The conventional grinding methods used previously produced unacceptable burrs, metallurgical damage and frequent wheel dressing.

Solution:
An Everite VG36 CNC Vertical spindle electrochemical grinder provided a cost effective solution. Thin fragile metals such as honeycomb are ideal for the ECG process. Fast deep cuts, no burrs and no recast layer allow ECG to be the process of choice for new and refurbished honeycomb grinding.
