Thin Wall Inconel Tubing Component
Client: Telecommunications Company
Background:
This critical telecommunications component consists of extremely thin wall Inconel 718 tubing and is very difficult to handle and machine.

Manufacturing Challenge:
The customer requirements were: 1) cut to length; 2) hold precision tolerance on overall length, and precision squareness on ends; and 3) produce no marring, no distortion, no nicking, no denting, no dings, and no scratches. Cutoff technologies explored included Laser and EDM resulting in either poor process capability, surface asperities, or very high cost.
Solution:
Success was achieved with Electrochemical Cutoff, producing completely burr free ends, achieving tolerance on overall length and squareness of ends, producing no nicks, no dings, no dents, no scratches, and no distortion - and accomplishing the task at a fraction of the cost of other technologies.
